Agege community rejects Obasa’s candidates, seeks Tinubu’s intervention
The Youth Party (YP) chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa Local Council of Lagos State in the forthcoming poll, Ayodele Adio, has unveiled his economic blueprint to transform the council’s economy and create thousands of new jobs.
The candidate’s plan, tagged “RISE” (Recycle, Invest, Strengthen, Empower), targets Eti-Osa’s most pressing challenges, while capitalising on its unique advantages.
Adio, who gave the promise while addressing community leaders, business owners and residents, said: “Our ‘RISE’ plans to address both immediate economic needs and long-term sustainable growth. It’s about creating real opportunities for our people, while building an economy that works for everyone.”
The initiative, he said, would be to establish community recycling centres that convert wastes into marketable products like biogas and tiles.
IN another development, residents of Agege, under the banner of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), have called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution the Speaker, Lagos State Assembly, MudashiruObasa, from foisting his surrogates as candidates for the forthcoming council and councillorship elections.
The aggrieved residents claimed that those shortlisted as candidates to represent the area for the poll were allegedly handpicked by Obasa without the community’s input.
Chairman of the PCC for Agege and Orile-Agege, KamarudeenSabitu, who spoke on the issue during a media briefing yesterday, alleged that Obasa did everything possible to manipulate the political structure in the area for personal gain.
He claimed that the candidate selected to vie for the Agege chairmanship election is a known loyalist of Obasa, who is also with visible health challenges, while the vice chairmanship slot was given to Obasa’s son, who had previously been disqualified.
Sabitu added that the people had endured years of political marginalisation under Obasa’s influence, saying: “We are not leaving the APC, and we will support President Tinubu. But Obasa must go beyond media statements. He should convene a meeting with local leaders to resolve this. We’ve collected over 2,000 signatures from Agege and Orile-Agege residents rejecting this imposition.”
Other community leaders, including Saheed Obadina and Omolola Abiodun, said: “We support Tinubu for a second term, but we won’t allow Obasa to control every political position in Agege. Let the people decide.”
