Throughout Howard Stern’s incredible career, he has become rich, famous, and has employed many people, including Artie Lange, who has led a wild life. Part of the reason for his success is the fact that Howard has celebrity friends even though he was beaten up over things he has said and Dolly Parton once threatened to sue him. Despite his controversial past, Howard Stern has still been able to get Donald Trump to talk about his prenup and Matt Lauer to admit his surprising crush.
Throughout Howard’s career, he has consistently proven that he could get famous people to make startling admissions. With that in mind, it is fascinating that Howard admitted the tricks he uses to get celebrities to reveal things they would regret.
Howard Stern Explained Why Celebrities Tell Him Things On “The Howard Stern Show” They Regret
Looking back at Howard Stern’s career, it quickly becomes clear that he is one of the most fascinating celebrities of all-time. After all, there are so many reasons why Howard shouldn’t have been as successful as he has been during his career.
Most notably, Howard somehow managed to be one of the biggest shock jocks of all-time while simultaneously being incredibly successful as an interviewer. In many ways, it makes no sense that celebrities would sit and talk to Howard on the radio for a long time after he’d said something wildly offensive moments earlier.
Ultimately, it has seemed like stars put up with Howard’s antics because he was often able to get stars to be comfortable enough to break down their walls. With that in mind, it is fascinating to look at how Howard got so many celebrities to tell him personal things on the radio that they later regretted.
In 2013, Howard made an appearance on Katie Couric’s former talk show, Katie. A clip of the resulting conversation that can be seen on YouTube was very revealing. During that clip, the veteran newscaster similarly got Howard to be very forthright about his life and career.

Howard Stern Went On A Rant After Being Called ‘Predictable’
Howard Stern’s shocking rant about a celebrity who said he’d “gone Hollywood” and was “so predictable” was extremely brutal.
After claiming he didn’t know how he got stars to publicly admit private details about their lives, Howard immediately began describing how he gets celebrities blabbing so much.
Throughout Howard Stern’s career, he has interviewed a seemingly endless list of celebrities. As a result, it was fascinating that an article on Howard’s website reveals that in his book “Howard Stern Comes Again,” he wrote that his favorite celebrity interview ever was with Conan O’Brien.
Howard began by saying that because there isn’t a studio audience that breaks immersion, stars start to feel like they are having a private conversation with him.
“Part of me thinks it’s because we’re on the radio. You know, when you talk on a show like this, I think that this intimidates people. You’re reminded that there’s an audience. And in radio, it’s just the two of us, and we’re sitting around.”
Howard then went on to explain that it is easier to get celebrities to feel immersed in the experience since he signed with SiriusXM.
Howard Stern’s current deal with SiriusXM will end in the coming months. As a December 2020 Screen Rant article revealed, Howard signed a 5-year deal with SiriusXM at that time.
While talking to Katie, Howard claimed that since there aren’t any commercials during his interviews, there is a hypnotic effect that comes over stars when he interviews them.
“Now on satellite radio. I don’t have to break for a commercial. I can sit there and talk with you, and we can kinda slip into this sort of hypnotic kind of experience. Where we really think we’re alone.
Over the years, there have been endless examples of stars making startling admissions to Howard. With that in mind, Howard’s comment about the hypnotic effect of his show makes a lot of sense.

Most “The Howard Stern Show” fans would likely say that there is another factor that makes his celebrity interviews stand out.
Far too many celebrity interviews feel like the person asking the questions isn’t that interested in what the subject has to say. On the other hand, Howard always comes across like he is extremely engaged and interested in what the people he interviews have to say.
As Howard’s aforementioned interview with Katie Couric continued, he finished explaining why stars tell him things they go on to regret. According to Howard, celebrities tell him things they usually keep secret partially because they can tell he genuinely is interested in them.
Some Of The Stunning Secrets Celebrities Have Told Howard Stern

Howard Stern’s The Tonight Show Appearance Offended Jay Leno So Much He Almost Walked Off His Own Show
Howard Stern’s edgy humor offended Jay Leno so much that he almost walked out of a taping of The Tonight Show.
The first example of a celebrity admission that Vogue pointed to came from Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander. Years after Seinfeld ended, Jason told Howard about how hard it was to work with his former co-star Heidi Swedberg.
After that, Vogue pointed to Madonna telling Howard she dated Tupac Shakur and Gwyneth Paltrow saying Brad Pitt was “too good for her.” Then there was the time Fred Armisen told Howard he was a bad partner. “I think I was a terrible husband, I think I’m a terrible boyfriend.”
The same Vogue article also touched on Jada Pinkett Smith telling Howard about having an open relationship with Will Smith. “Here is what’s real — I’m not the kind of woman that believes a man is not going to be attracted to other women. I’m just not that girl. It’s just not realistic. And just because your man is attracted to another woman, does not mean he doesn’t love you.”
As incredible as that list of celebrity admissions is, the most amazing thing is that Vogue only revealed a drop in the bucket of celebrity confessions from Howard’s interviews.
