While Kody Brown certainly holds the lion’s share of the blame for the disbanding of the Sister Wives polygamous Brown clan and their 18 children, there is something to be said for Christine and Kody Brown’s son, Paedon Brown’s contribution to the family’s downfall.
Fans of the TLC reality tv show have long speculated that Meri Brown is another big contributor to the reason the Brown family is no longer as solid. Viewers think Meri plays the victim and was unkind to her former sister wives. On top of that, the children also have expressed discontent with Meri.
The Sister Wives’ Kids Have Issues With Each Other, Not Just Their Dad
Paedon Brown, 26, is the child of Christine and Kody Brown. Christine was Kody’s third wife, with the two marrying in 1994. Christine was seemingly the last wife as well, until Kody married newest wife Robyn in 2010. Paedon, like his father, isn’t afraid to speak his mind and is very self-righteous. This gets him into hot water with his family a lot, and he finds himself in controversy often.
Paedon admitted to The Sun in a 2022 interview that he had been “rude” to Robyn’s children as he witnessed them grow up, because he would see his dad Kody participate in activities with them that he never did with him.
This is an understandable emotion given the number of children Kody has fathered; it’s clear Kody may not have been able to devote enough attention to each child.
Robyn was the last wife to join the Brown family, and she already had children from a previous marriage. As it was portrayed quite clearly on Sister Wives, it was difficult to merge the families and the wives after there were only three wives for almost two decades prior to Robyn joining.
Paedon had a particularly difficult time connecting with Robyn’s daughter, now-20-year-old Breanna Brown. Breanna was 11 when she joined the Brown family. During Paedon’s interview with The Sun, he elaborated on the current state of his relationship with Robyn’s children, saying “My relationships with Dayton and Aurora are now great. My relationship with Breanna is not good at all, but that’s because she is several years younger than me.”
Meri Brown’s only child, 28-year-old Leon, is transgender, and it has been implied by his siblings that Paedon is transphobic. Leon has distanced themselves from the entire Brown family, likely because of the lack of emotional support from patriarch Kody and their differing political views with brother Paedon.
Leon was believed to be upset with Paedon when he posted a “Blue Lives Matter” image on his Instagram. Police brutality against Black Americans is well documented, and posting the image seemed to imply that Paedon did not understand or support the Black Lives Matter movement.
Particularly vocal against Paedon and his views is his sister who shares the same mother as him, 21-year-old Gwendlyn Brown. Gwendlyn is also a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and she has some choice words for her brother. Gwendlyn called her brother (via Instagram account @kodys_ex_wives) “sexist, homophobic, transphobic, racist.”

Gwendlyn certainly isn’t holding back on her views against Paedon, but her older brother is not an innocent bystander, in fact, quite the opposite. Paedon has admitted to slapping his sister during an argument. He even admitted on a TikTok live that Gwendlyn was “scared” of him, and was afraid he “might do it again.”
Why Paedon Brown Accused Meri Brown Of Being Cruel To The Brown Children
Sister Wives star, Paedon Brown, like his father Kody Brown, is no stranger to having conflict within his family. He is very close to his mother, Christine Brown, but has used choice words to describe Meri Brown, the mother to his sibling Leon.
Growing up, Paedon appeared to struggle with connecting to Meri or her parenting style, and has even described her behavior as “abrasive” on the YouTube show hosted by blogger John Yates. Paedon has even accused Meri of being abusive, despite the fact that he has no evidence to back up that serious claim.
To some, it may seem like Paedon is just throwing out accusations left and right to stir the pot. However, he is not the only Brown sibling to have issues with Meri. Janelle’s daughter Maddie also has negative feelings towards Kody’s first wife, calling her a “monster” in since deleted tweets.
Meri has also had to fight accusations that she made herself a victim during her time on Sister Wives. She also turned against her original sister wives Janelle and Christine when newest wife Robyn was added to the mix.
It was speculated that Meri chose to have an alliance with Robyn (rather than a real friendship) because she knew that Kody favored Robyn over the other wives.

When things were clearly going downhill between Meri and Kody, she turned to finding romance online. This effort at freedom unfortunately blew up in her face, as that person ended up being a catfish.
Even when Meri and Kody got legally divorced in 2014, viewers speculated the divorce was a way for Meri to just get more attention on herself. Reddit user @britem2 threw out this theory, “I believe Meri initiated the divorce as some sort of attention grab or way to make herself feel relevant in the family,” implying that Meri planned and plotted the whole ordeal.
Then same user continued, discussing Meri’s catfishing situation, “Then watching the stuff with the catfish; there is no denying or sugar coating that she had an emotional affair and yet from the beginning she calls it a friendship and plays the victim, manipulating everyone around her to see it as she wants it to be.”
Meri Brown and Kody Brown legally divorced in September 2014, so Kody could legally marry Robyn Brown in order to adopt her three children from her previous marriage. Christine Brown and Janelle Brown were only ever spiritually married with Kody.
Is The Sister Wives Family Still Close?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that the Sister Wives family has close bonds anymore. Janelle and Christine both ended their marriages with Kody in 2021, and Meri and Kody announced their split in January 2023. Robyn is the only wife still married to Kody. Ironically, Robyn and Kody are now in a monogamous relationship after so much effort to stay in a polygamous one.
The Sister Wives family has clearly been through an enormous amount of strain. Paedon Brown has a particularly difficult time with his siblings and has still not mended his relationship with Gwendlyn or Leon.
Between the wives, things aren’t that much better. None of the wives, Janelle, Christine, or Robyn follow first wife Meri on Instagram. Meri did write a heartwarming post on Instagram for Garrison Brown, Janelle’s son, after he ended his life earlier this year. While the support during an incredibly heartbreaking time is surely appreciated, it doesn’t seem to have made up for the years of emotional turmoil, as the wives still aren’t a part of Meri’s life.
