PDP seeks national reflection, calls on APC to end waste, deceit

As Nigerians mark the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended its heartfelt felicitations to citizens across the country, urging them to embrace the occasion as a moment of deep reflection, spiritual rededication, and unwavering faith in divine mercy amid the nation’s worsening socio-economic plight.
 
This was even as the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), on Friday, called on Muslims to emulate the virtues of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), especially his compassion, humility, and devotion to peace and justice, as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
 
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP commended Nigerians for their resilience in the face of adversity. The party called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to embrace the solemnity of the season by halting what it described as “rampant profligacy, exploitation, and deceit” that have eroded the hopes and dignity of citizens.
 
“The Eid-el-Kabir festival, which exemplifies obedience, sacrifice and compassion, comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with unbearable hardship, exacerbated by the APC government’s mismanagement of national resources,” the statement read.
 
The opposition party expressed grave concern over the state of the nation, lamenting the “worsening insecurity” that has turned vast regions into “killing fields,” and the dire economic climate that has rendered basic living conditions out of reach for millions.
 
The PDP also accused the APC of not only presiding over a collapsing economy but of willfully mortgaging the nation’s future through “reckless borrowing with no tangible benefit to citizens.”  
 
The party called on the government to immediately recover over N30 trillion allegedly siphoned through fraudulent oil deals and financial malpractices perpetrated under the APC leadership .
 
“These looted funds,” the PDP asserted, “must be redirected towards resuscitating our failing infrastructure, energising the productive sectors, and strengthening national security agencies, all of which are in desperate need of revitalisation.”
 
The party further charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the remaining two years of his tenure to redeem himself and reconnect with the moral imperatives of leadership by pursuing policies that reflect compassion, prudence, and accountability.
 
“At a time when Nigerians are called to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice and obedience to God’s will, the APC must also reflect deeply and align its governance with the values of truth, justice, and the public good,” PDP emphasised.
 
Urging citizens not to lose faith, the PDP called on Nigerians to remain patriotic and continue to support one another, especially the most vulnerable, during these challenging times.
 
The party also emphasised the power of collective prayers and unity in securing divine intervention for national restoration.
 
In a statement, the National Chairman of IPAC, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir to pray for peace, love,  tolerance and unity, emphasising the need for collective patriotism to redirect the nation towards progress, justice, and prosperity.
 
Dantalle said: “This is the only country we can call our own. We must join hands to build a strong, virile, united, progressive, equitable and inclusive democratic society where no one is left behind. 
 
“Citizens must feel the impact of democratic governance as stipulated in Section (14)(2)b of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. 
 
“Nigerians desire and deserve dividends of democracy to assuage their sufferings following the ongoing economic reforms of the Federal Government, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy.
 
“IPAC commiserates with the government and people of Niger State over the flood that killed over 150 people, displaced thousands, submerged houses and farmlands at Mokwa in Niger State. 
 
“Our hearts go out to those affected by this disaster trusting God to console, comfort and strengthen them in this difficult time. We urge governments at all levels to be proactive to avoid a recurrence of this tragedy. We also appeal to citizens to support victims of the flooding.”
