As part of this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has called on parents and guardians to be vigilant and discourage their children from joining cult groups. The governor said his administration remains committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for children to thrive.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo stressed that children are the cornerstone of Edo’s future and deserve every opportunity to succeed.
“Our children are our most precious assets. Their dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State,” the governor said. “We must protect them from harmful influences and equip them with the tools they need to flourish.”

While congratulating children in Edo State and across the country, Okpebholo emphasized the significance of Children’s Day as a reminder of the need to protect and nurture the younger generation. He reiterated his administration’s focus on providing quality education, safeguarding children’s rights, and supporting youth development.
“We believe that every child deserves a fair chance at success, irrespective of their background,” he said. “We will continue to invest in their education, skill development, and general well-being.”
He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to be active in mentoring young people, fostering strong values, and steering them away from dangerous paths, particularly cultism, which has plagued many communities.
The governor also encouraged children to stay focused on their education, dream big, and remain disciplined, assuring them that his government would continue to support their aspirations.
“As we celebrate Children’s Day, let us all recommit to doing everything within our power to guide our children towards a future full of promise,” the statement added.
Governor Okpebholo’s remarks come amid growing concern over the rising influence of cultism among youths in Nigeria. His administration has promised to work with families, schools, and law enforcement to tackle the issue head-on.
