The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned President Bola Tinubu to be wary of promises of support by those it described as “self-acclaimed Igbo leaders” in his 2027 presidential election.
The group was particular about the promises made by Anambra State governor, Charles Soludo, and other Igbo leaders, insisting the choice of presidential candidate for 2027 ultimately rests with the people and not political figures.
MASSOB leader Uchenna Madu, in a statement he released on Sunday in Enugu, told the President that “these individuals do not represent the true will of the Igbo people,” adding that “their influence will not translate into genuine voter support.”
Madu warned that there was a need to understand the sentiments and aspirations of the Igbo grassroots rather than relying on established political figures who would not resonate with the broader community.
He added, “There is an ongoing dialogue about representation and political strategy within the Southeast region as the next general elections approach.
“MASSOB is reminding President Bola Tinubu that the Southeast region will not support his bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election because your administration has neglected our region, leading to significant pain, agony, and feelings of marginalisation among our people.
“MASSOB laments that the Southeast region deserves better representation and attention from the federal government, and we believe that the current administration has failed to address the needs and concerns of the Ndigbo.”
The statement added that the ongoing discontent and political dynamics within the Southeast were overwhelming, stressing that Ndigbo were seeking greater recognition and support in national governance.
It criticised the “blatant arrogance” exhibited by Governor Soludo during President Tinubu’s recent state visit to Anambra State, explaining that the hurried promises were a show of desperation in an attempt to secure a second term in office as governor.
It stated that Governor Soludo was systematically erasing every memory and image of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu from All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Anambra State, adding that his political manoeuvring undermines the quest for genuine representation and self-determination of Anambra State and Ndigbo in general.
MASSOB reiterated that the decision of the Igbo people regarding the preferred presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential election would ultimately rest with the masses rather than individual leaders or political figures.
“While leaders like Governor Chukwuma Soludo may have their own perspectives and opinions, the collective voice and choice of the people are what truly matter in a democratic process.
“The sentiments, needs, and aspirations of the Igbo masses will play a crucial role in shaping our voting decisions.
“Engaging with the electorate, understanding our concerns, and addressing our priorities will be key for any candidate looking to gain support from the Igbo people,” the statement added.
