Throughout the seasons of Chicago Med, the hit TV show has introduced many characters that fans deeply care about. As a result, Chicago Med viewers want to see Dr. Daniel Charles find true happiness, and they are happy with how Sharon Goodwin has improved as a character. As great as it is to improve Chicago Med’s ongoing stars, the medical drama’s viewers have also made it clear they want characters from the past to return.
Fortunately for the viewers and everyone involved in the show, Chicago Med’s 10th season has featured the return of some past characters. One perfect example of that is the fact that fans were shocked when a popular character who had been gone for five seasons recently returned.
Fans Were Ecstatic To See Robin Charles Return After More Than Five Years
Over the last several months, Chicago Med fans got to watch the landmark 10th season of the highly successful show. One of the reasons why Chicago Med has lasted so long is because the show has introduced a lot of characters that fans grew to care about.
While that is wonderful, the sad truth is that several Chicago Med characters that were loved by fans have disappeared. While most long-lasting shows write out popular characters, that doesn’t mean that fans stop caring.
Even though a character is beloved by fans, viewers give up on the hopes of seeing them again once they are gone for years. With that in mind, it makes sense that Chicago Med fans were shocked and overjoyed by the return of Robin Charles after more than five years.
During the 21st episode of Chicago Med’s 10th season, Mekia Cox suddenly appeared onscreen as her character Robin Charles. That episode, which was titled “Baby Mine…,” aired for the first time on May 14th, 2025.

It is also worth noting that the last time that Robin made regular appearances on Chicago Med came at the end of the show’s 4th season.

How Chicago Med Season 10 Has Done A Great Job Introducing New Characters
Chicago Med’s 10th season is doing a better job of introducing new characters than in several seasons from the past.
In response to Mekia’s Chicago Med return, the show’s fans had a major reaction on social media.
Robin’s Chicago Med return made perfect sense from a story perspective. During the previous episode, Dr. Daniel Charles’ mom suddenly passed away while in the hospital. As a result, Robin returned to Chicago Med to attend the funeral for her grandmother and be there for her father in his time of grief.
A perfect example of that is the post on X/Twitter from a fan who posted a gif of an emotional Oprah Winfrey. Alongside that gif was a caption about how happy the fan was to see Robin’s return.
my heart makes me so happy seeing robin again like that’s my girl 🥺🫶🏻 #ChicagoMed
Similarly, another fan posted on X/Twitter celebrating Chicago Med’s new showrunner.
Since she left Chicago Med behind more than five years ago, Mekia Cox has been very busy as an actor. Most notably, Mekia has been starring in The Rookie since 2019.
That fan expressed appreciation for Chicago Med’s new showrunnner for bringing Robin and Rachel DiPillo’s character, Dr. Sarah Reese, back during Season 10.
“the new chicago med showrunner has absolutely KILLED IT this season! it’s been so much better than the last few seasons, interesting new storylines/characters AND bringing back old characters!! like what do you mean i’ve had sarah reese & robin charles back on my screen in 2025!?”
It is worth noting that many other fans expressed excitement on social media. Additionally, it should be pointed out that the fan from the last post was right because it seems clear that Chicago Med’s new showrunner played a major role in Robin’s return.

Chicago Med Season 10’s Dr. Mitch Ripley Storyline Was A Huge Mistake
Chicago Med’s storyline for Dr. Mitch Ripley during Season 10 was a major mistake.
In September 2024, Chicago Med’s new showrunner for the show’s 10th season spoke to Variety about their plans for the show. During that interview, the showrunner, Allen MacDonald, hinted at his plan to bring back some of Chicago Med’s characters from the past.
“One thing I love about the One Chicago world is just because someone has exited the show, they’re still part of the world. And I like checking in with people.”
Of course, Robin’s actor, Mekia Cox, also played a major role in the character’s return, literally. With that in mind, it is great to see that on May 15th, 2025, Mekia posted on Instagram about her return. In her post that featured her alongside many of the show’s stars, Mekia wrote about how happy she was to return to Chicago Med and hinted that her comeback wasn’t over.
“Had so much fun hangin out with the ol’ ChiMed fam! Be sure to watch again next week! (Robin may make another appearance. 😜) @oliverplatt @merk2577 @nbconechicago #chicagomed”
Chicago Med’s Anna Charles Returned During The Same Episode
As Chicago Med’s fans will certainly already know, Dr. Daniel Charles had more than one daughter who was a regular part of the show in the past. As a result, it made sense that Dr. Charles’ other daughter, Anna Charles, returned alongside Robin Charles.

Chicago Med Just Aired Its Best Episode Ever—Why Lapsed Fans Need To Return
Why I believe that an episode from Chicago Med’s 10th season is the best in the history of the show.
Similar to Mekia Cox, Hannah Riley hadn’t portrayed Anna Charles for years before the two actors made their simultaneous Chicago Med returns. However, Hannah hadn’t been absent from the show for as long as Mekia had been.
Before Hannah made her May 14th, 2025 return, she’d last appeared during the 17th episode of the show’s 8th season. That episode, which was titled “Know When to Hold and When to Fold,” aired on March 29th, 2023.
Of course, Chicago Med fans were excited to see Anna return because it is always great to see a character from the past. However, a Reddit post pointed out a funny reason why it was so exciting to see Robin and Anna show up together.
Even though the two characters are half-sisters, they never really had anything to do with each other on the show. A fan on the r/ChicagoMed subreddit therefore decided to celebrate seeing Anna and Robin enter the funeral together and have a relationship with each other. “Finally robin and Anna are in the same room together. It only took 10 seasons 😂😂”
