Veteran actor and filmmaker Ugezu Ugezu has shared the heartbreaking story of a Nigerian medical doctor who became a meat butcher in the US.
According to him, the practising medical doctor sold his clinic and relocated to the US. Unfortunately for him, he became a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed.
Questioning how long he would keep hiding himself, Ugezu admonished the public to be guided, as many things aren’t really the way they appear.
“In the name of Japa, a practising medical doctor in Nigeria sold his clinic and relocated to the US. Finally, he is now in a US city. Guess what? He now works as a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed. For how long?

With the rate at which the economy has dwindled, it isn’t surprising to see many Nigerians relocating overseas.
Award-winning comedian and actor Ayo Makun shared his opinion about the Japa syndrome. He opined that the syndrome of relocating overseas, tagged as Japa, will continue to occur in the country because of corrupt politicians who embezzle money when elected into political positions and have nothing to show off at the end of their tenure.
Reality TV star Tboss, sharing her opinion on the Japa syndrome, noted that abroad is not for the faint-hearted and advised that those planning to Japa listen to them.
Pastor Femi Emmanuel of Livingspring Chapel International warned Nigerians against relocating abroad for greener pastures, as the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The clergyman admonished anyone considering relocating to drop the idea because it would lead to future regret. However, he exempted some certain person’s from not relocating.
Early last year, the former Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, had given reasons why he would not encourage the emigration of Nigerians popularly referred to as Japa.
He said ‘japa’ could only get someone a 9 to 5 job and maintained that staying back in Nigeria could get one into a political office. He advised young people in the country to push their way through to get into a place of decision-making, especially regarding the economy of Nigeria.
