President Bola Tinubu has flown back to Abuja, following a two-day visit to the Vatican City in Rome.
While in Rome, Tinubu attended the inauguration mass of the 267th Bishop of Rome, His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV.
The president, who arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 6:50 pm, was received by senior officials of the administration.
Tinubu joined other world leaders to witness the solemn ceremony, after which he met with the Pontiff, exchanging handshakes and a brief chat.
He also held talks with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and its President, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, Bishop of Owerri.
Tinubu called on all Nigerians, especially spiritual leaders, to turn the nation’s religious and cultural diversities into a source of strength and prosperity, rather than division and conflicts.
The President, who led Nigeria’s delegation to the ceremony, described the moment as historic, saying it was a privilege to be President at a time when a new Pontiff was being inaugurated.
Among those who welcomed the President at the airport were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje; and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
