Tory Lanez was rushed to the hospital on Monday after he was stabbed 14 times by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
A spokesperson for the facility confirmed the news.
“Staff immediately responded, activated 911 and began medical aid. Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment,” the spokesperson said.
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion during the summer of July 2020.
Hours after the news of the stabbing circulated online, a member of Lanez’s team shared a message via his Instagram account, confirming the incident but also that the Canadian rapper is now breathing on his own despite both of his lungs collapsing.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times, including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head and one to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own,” the statement reads.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support,” the post concludes.
