Shows like The Rookie have fans eagerly awaiting its upcoming eighth season. The highly intense action sequences captivate viewers’ interest. Beyond the action, however, are the various characters. Their personal journeys have also hooked viewers for the past seven seasons, and they want to see how their stories pan out.
In the series Fire Country, fans are hooked for similar reasons. One of the characters viewers are fascinated by in Fire Country is Bode Donovan, played by Max Thieriot. Max also serves as executive producer and is even a co-creator of the series. His character is currently experiencing major developments in his career and romantic life. However, his desire to save Three Rock has caused a rift with his parents.
Bode Is Trying To Save Three Rock And It Causes A Rift With His Parents
Bode Donovan is taking quite the risk by joining the fight against Oxalta. The risk comes in the way he takes on his mission to save Three Rock. Despite his good intentions, however, his actions are causing a rift between Bode and his parents. CinemaBlend shared an exclusive clip from season 3, Episode 18, “Eyes and Ears Everywhere.” In the clip, it shows Bode at the moment he decides to make a move to save Three Rock.
However, his method is very high-risk, which is to be expected of Bode. He is also hoping to be rewarded highly, by teaming up with Constance Zimmer’s lawyer, Renêe Hoffman. His plans are causing his parents stress, which leads to a tense back-and-forth between them.
Sharon begins by asking Bode, “You went behind my back?” Bode then says, “You know how I felt. Oxalta needs to pay for what they did.” Sharon then explains why she believes Bode’s actions put them in danger. “Now it looks like we’re going to be the ones who pay,” she tells him, “because Oxalta will ruin us.”
Bode tried to calm her down by saying, “I can fix this. OK, when something is broken, that’s what I do.” Sharon then attempts to tell him what she thinks he should do. “Then you just have to drop this nonsense,” she says. “That’s it. Be happy with what we got, and then go mend fences with Merriweather.”

However, Bode does not accept that. “The literal enemy? No,” he asserts. Vince then says, “Bode, come on. You gotta think about this.” Bode then calls his parents hypocritical and says, “No, we don’t give in to bullies. We don’t empower them. You taught me that.”
Bode Won Over His Commanding Instructor And Scored A Huge Victory
During the episode “False Alarm,” Bode experiences a significant milestone. He graduates from the training program for formerly incarcerated people and becomes a member of Cal Fire. Bode gets to work alongside his family and friends at Station 42.
However, to say this journey was difficult for Bode would be an understatement. He was believed to be too distracted by his personal life to be completely focused on firefighting, according to his commanding instructor, Camden Casey (played by Jared Padalecki). Camden didn’t think Bode would graduate as a result. Bode persevered, though, and proved Camden wrong. During a high-pressure rescue, Bode showed bravery and selflessness, helping him score this major victory. This was a goal Bode had set for himself at the start of the series, so this achievement was monumental.
Max Thieriot, the co-creator and executive producer, spoke to Parade about how one never knows how many seasons a show will be on the air. As a result, he said it’s important to do as much with the characters as you can while you have the chance.
“I think this to everybody felt like the right spot,” Max said. “And we believe we have a lot of really good stuff to mine from here going forward.”
Bode’s character evolution has given the show many options when it comes to his story. Bode becoming a firefighter will no doubt allow for many new action scenes also. These scenes are referred to as “incidents” by the show’s producers. According to Max, it was very challenging to keep Bode involved in incidents when he couldn’t be in the exact places.
“And now that he’s at 42, we feel like the sky’s the limit,” Max explained. His everyday life will even have new possibilities now. “It’s the conversations that he has with all these people around him. It’s the time outside of the firehouse. It’s going to Smokey’s and all these places that we just kind of couldn’t really bring him to naturally. We’re super excited about that. Obviously, the graduation is sort of the jump-off point.”
Jared’s guest appearance caused a lot of fans to wonder what would happen to his character. The Supernatural actor had a three-episode arc on Fire Country which concluded with the “False Alarm” episode. Max is friends with Jared off camera, and he said he was happy to finally work with Jared on the show. These episodes have a lot more action than a typical Fire Country episode, so Jared embarked on a very challenging situation. The cast and crew’s expectations were more than met by Jared, however.
“Obviously, he’s been doing it for a long time,” Max said when asked about Jared. “But it’s different when you come into a situation or a show that’s going as a guest and everybody has these expectations. He and I are family, but [the Fire Country team] isn’t his family, right? That’s how a lot of sets can feel and become. And to be able to step into that and just boom, he walks in on set, does this giant action sequence, knocks it out of the park.”

CBS teased a potential spin-off about the Camden character when Jared was cast, much to the delight of fans. The network said the potential series is in the early stages of development. “At this point, there’s no news to share on spin-off stuff. We’re super focused right now on launching Sheriff Country,” Max said, referring to the other Fire Country spin-off. “We have so much work to do over there, in a good way. But I love Jared, and I think we all loved having him on the show and we love his character. So you never know what lies ahead. But in the meantime, it was a positive experience for us and we’ll see what happens.”
Another Area Where Bode Is Winning Is His Love Life, Despite His Ex Not Doing So Well
Bode’s love life was another source of speculation in this episode. Bode and Gabriela have officially moved their relationship to the “off-again” phase. In the meantime, he’s gotten closer to Audrey James, played by Leven Rambin. After Audrey’s long-distance boyfriend breaks up with her, Bode sees his chance and begins flirting. Bode cooks a steak dinner for her to celebrate and compliments her looks. This would lead some to believe there is something going on between them.
“Audrey has been such a fun character for the show,” Max said. “She adds such a different presence in the fire station and in Bode’s life. For someone who’s had a hard time fitting in a lot of places, it really feels like she fits in. I think the fun thing is that she and Bode have lived so many of the same life experiences that most people don’t go through. And their ability to relate to one another and really see each other is unique and special. I think that’s why they’re starting to have this relationship that’s whatever it is.” Bode and Audrey are friends, and Max said there could be more information about their future in Episodes 8 and 9.
“I think that Leven is super talented,” Max said of Leven. “She’s an actress that’s capable of really sort of doing anything. She just has that natural, very grounded and real thing about her that’s hard to do. That realness on camera and just honest performance makes working with her a lot of fun.”
Bode’s life might be on the upswing, but Gabriela’s is a different story. There were dangerous cliff dives, working too hard, and drinking too much. Gabriela has clearly not been doing well. At one point, she has a drunken hook-up with her ex, Jake. Jake is going through his own struggles, as he is coping with his legal ward Genevieve choosing to stay with her biological family. Viewers have been wondering how Bode will react to the news of what happened between the two of them.

“There’s gonna be a lot of emotions that get stirred up with that, not just between Bode and Gabriela, but Bode and Jake,” Max said. “Obviously the reveal of that is shocking enough. But I think getting to see how that plays out is going to be eating away at these characters and eating away at the audience, just waiting for it to drop.”
