Everything To Know About The Fire Country Spinoff, Sheriff Country

Jared Padalecki stunned viewers with his starring role alongside Jensen Ackles in Supernatural. The highly successful drama series had a large legion of loyal fans who tuned in to every episode. After the series ended, fans awaited the day they would see Jared grace their television screens again. He recently made an appearance guest starring on Fire Country.

Jared’s appearance led to speculation that his character would be the subject of a spin-off series. However, the show’s star, co-creator, and executive producer Max Thieriot said that wouldn’t be happening just yet. The reason? It looks like there is already a spin-off of Fire Country in the works. And this particular series will be premiering in the fall of this year.

Sheriff Country Will Be Centered Around The Character Of Sheriff Mickey

Due to Fire Country’s quick success, CBS said they wanted to make the show into a franchise. The spin-off, Sheriff Country, will begin airing during the 2025-2026 season. This new series will be led by Sheriff Mickey and the show is being set up in Fire Country Season 3. Showrunner Tia Napolitano spoke to Cinemablend in 2024 about the season 2 finale, the upcoming spin-off, and how it would be introduced in the following season. Tia promised viewers that they would see Sheriff Mickey again before the premiere of Sheriff Country.

“Yeah, we want to expand Edgewater, and Mickey is part of Edgewater,” she said. “So we definitely want to have her come play on Fire Country, and get to know her more and get to know who she is to all of our people to build that world so that Sheriff Country feels like a natural expansion of the universe and it’s just more Edgewater for our viewers.”

Sheriff Mickey, played by Morena Baccarin, played a major role in the sixth episode of Season 2. The revelation that she would be back for the next season didn’t come as a surprise to fans. In fact, it seemed obvious considering they would be premiering a spin-off centered around the character.

The character of Mickey was also introduced as being connected to the core characters on the show. Mickey is Sharon’s sister and Bode’s aunt, as well as being an important part of the Sheriff’s department. During her episode, fans learned about her relationships with Sharon, Vince and Bode. Viewers also learned other key details about her involvement with the department. This already set up the spin-off series perfectly.

Mickey has a daughter who is in rehab, in addition to a complicated history with her father. Fans were hoping to learn more about Edgewater’s sheriff’s department in Season 3 of Fire Country, and Tia said that would definitely happen.

Sheriff Country Isn’t The Only Fire Country Spin-Off That Is In The Works

In an episode of Fire Country titled “False Alarm,” there is a milestone event for former inmate Bode Leone. He becomes an official member of Cal Fire and graduates from the training program for formerly incarcerated people. Bode is hired to work with his family and friends at Station 42.

However, this journey wasn’t an easy one for Bode. His commanding instructor, Camden Casey (played by Jared Padalecki), thought Bode was too distracted by his personal life to be completely focused on firefighting. Therefore, it was believed Bode wouldn’t graduate for this reason. Despite his doubts, Bode wins Camden over in the end. This has a lot to do with the bravery and selflessness Bode showed during a high-pressure rescue. This was a monumental moment, as he had achieved the goal he set for himself since the start of the series.

Fire Country co-creator and executive producer Max Thieriot recently told Parade that when you do a show, you never know how many seasons it will last. Therefore, it is important to do as many things as you want with the story and characters while you still have the opportunity.

“I think this to everybody felt like the right spot,” Max told the outlet. “And we believe we have a lot of really good stuff to mine from here going forward.”

The evolution of Bode’s character has given the show a lot of new opportunities for his story. Becoming a firefighter will also provide more opportunities for action sequences as well. Producers of the show refer to these scenes as “incidents.” Max said that their efforts to keep Bode involved in incidents when he couldn’t be in the current places were extremely challenging.

“And now that he’s at 42, we feel like the sky’s the limit,” he said. Bode will even have new possibilities in his day-to-day life. “It’s the conversations that he has with all these people around him. It’s the time outside of the firehouse. It’s going to Smokey’s and all these places that we just kind of couldn’t really bring him to naturally. We’re super excited about that. Obviously, the graduation is sort of the jump-off point.”

Many people are wondering what will happen to the character of Camden. The “False Alarm” episode puts an end to Jared’s three-episode arc on Fire Country. Max and Jared are friends off camera, and Max said he was happy to finally work with the Supernatural star. Since the episodes have a lot more action than a typical Fire Country episode, Jared took on a challenging situation. However, he more than met the expectations of the cast and crew.

“Obviously, he’s been doing it for a long time,” Max said of Jared. “But it’s different when you come into a situation or a show that’s going as a guest and everybody has these expectations. He and I are family, but [the Fire Country team] isn’t his family, right? That’s how a lot of sets can feel and become. And to be able to step into that and just boom, he walks in on set, does this giant action sequence, knocks it out of the park.”

Here’s How Jared Padalecki Break His Hand While Filming A ‘Supernatural’ Scene

The set of ‘Supernatural’ was a dangerous place; here’s how Jared Padalecki broke his hand on set.

Fans of the actor will be happy to know that CBS teased a potential spin-off about Camden Casey when Jared was cast. According to the network, the show is in the early stages of development. “At this point, there’s no news to share on spin-off stuff. We’re super focused right now on launching Sheriff Country,” Max said, also referring to the show’s other spin-off. “We have so much work to do over there, in a good way. But I love Jared, and I think we all loved having him on the show and we love his character. So you never know what lies ahead. But in the meantime, it was a positive experience for us and we’ll see what happens.”

Bode’s Love Life Seems To Be Improving While His Ex Is Really Going Through It

The episode also caused some to speculate about Bode’s love life. His relationship with Gabriela has officially moved to the “off-again” phase, and he’s got closer to Audrey James, played by Leven Rambin. Bode starts flirting with her after Audrey’s long-distance boyfriend breaks up with her. He cooks her a steak dinner to celebrate and tells her how good she looks. This leads viewers to believe something is going to happen between them.

“Audrey has been such a fun character for the show,” Max said. “She adds such a different presence in the fire station and in Bode’s life. For someone who’s had a hard time fitting in a lot of places, it really feels like she fits in. I think the fun thing is that she and Bode have lived so many of the same life experiences that most people don’t go through. And their ability to relate to one another and really see each other is unique and special. I think that’s why they’re starting to have this relationship that’s whatever it is.” Both of them are friends, and Max hinted that viewers will be informed about their future in Episodes 8 and 9.

“I think that Leven is super talented,” he said of his new co-star. “She’s an actress that’s capable of really sort of doing anything. She just has that natural, very grounded and real thing about her that’s hard to do. That realness on camera and just honest performance makes working with her a lot of fun.”

While Bode’s life seems to be on the upswing, Gabriela is going in the other direction. From dangerous cliff dives to working to hard and drinking too much, Gabriela isn’t doing well. She even has a drunken hook-up with her ex, Jake. Jake is also going through a tough time, after his legal ward Genevieve decided to stay with her biological family. Many of the show’s fans are wondering how Bode will react when he finds out what happened between the two of them.

“There’s gonna be a lot of emotions that get stirred up with that, not just between Bode and Gabriela, but Bode and Jake,” Max said. “Obviously the reveal of that is shocking enough. But I think getting to see how that plays out is going to be eating away at these characters and eating away at the audience, just waiting for it to drop.”
