A lawmaker representing Kano South senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, has decamped from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Senator’s romance with the leadership of the APC in recent times has cast doubt on his continued loyalty to the opposition NNPP.
Confirming his defection to the APC through a text message, the former Special Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Assembly Matters, said the “defection is no longer rumour.”
“Yes, it is true, the rumors regarding my defection are accurate. All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency,” Sumaila said.
“I am resolutely determined to advance the lives of my people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured.”
Sumaila was recently suspended from NNPP alongside two House of Representatives members from the party for alleged anti-party activities with the APC.
Although the federal lawmakers denied the allegation, they, however, insisted they have refused to associate with the Kwankwasiyya faction of NNPP.
APC national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared the readiness of the party to receive Sumaila after describing NNPP as dead wood.
Chairman of NNPP Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano, Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, was not available for comment at the time of filing this report.
