The chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, on Monday, urged voters to remove incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke during the 2026 gubernatorial poll.
He contended that for Osun to reclaim its rightful position among the comity of states, there is a need to enthrone a responsive and efficient leadership through a credible democratic process devoid of electoral vices.
In a statement forwarded to journalists in Osogbo, Odeyemi, who alleged that Adeleke is surrounded by bootlickers that are not genuinely committed to socioeconomic growth of the state, said “the present pitiable condition of Osun should be a source of concern to every indigene.”
According to him, some of the governor’s aides who are ready to work were not put in the right places where their contributions would be meaningful, so as not to outshine their principal.
“Expectations were high when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was about to take over from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022, more so when they had a candidate that people believed is well-to-do enough to even help the state in all ramifications,” he said.
“But the reverse is the case now. So many promises left unfulfilled. The ruling party is fighting a battle from all fronts as if they are in the opposition instead of facing real governance.
“Our collective wealth is being spent on countless aides. The state government is rolling out employment letters everyday, and some of these appointees have not stepped into the state in the last two years.
“Local government administration has been grounded for almost two months now, yet the state government is not seeing any reason to tell the truth about the whole matter.
“Billions of naira is being earmarked for Infrastructural Plans despite the fact that many of these projects have been captured in this year’s budget. For how long are we going to deceive ourselves?
“For us at NNPP, we strongly believe that the state of the Living Springs deserves better. We deserve a leader with vast knowledge about governance, an overall leader who is all-encompassing anytime, any day.
“Osun needs to be delivered from the shackles of the two major political parties we have tested but not trusted. We need to rise above political sentiment next year.
“Let’s work together for a better and brighter Osun. Political parties should come together to support the best in 2026. It is a defining moment and about the prosperity of our dear state, as history will never forgive us if we get it wrong this time again. In 2026, NNPP will present a governorship candidate with sterling qualities to ensure a massive turnaround in our socioeconomic fortune.”
