The move to weed out moles in the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced with the suspension of the former Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial zone, Chukwuka Utazi, from the party for alleged anti-party activities.
Utazi’s suspension is coming about one year after he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. Utazi, a two-time senator (2015-2023), who represented Enugu North Senatorial District under the platform of the PDP, decamped to APC in March 2024. He had hinged his decision on the need to join politics at the centre and use the platform to realise Igbo presidency.
Surprisingly, the APC in his Nkpologwu ward and Uzouwani Local Council of the state on Friday announced his suspension from the party. In a letter of notification addressed to the state Chairman of APC, Ugochukwu Agballah, jointly signed by the Chairman of APC Uzo-Uwani Local Council, Chief Chris Ajodo; the Secretary, Pius Diara, and APC Chairman, Nkpologu Ward, Albert Aniebonam.
The party stated that Utazi’s suspension was sequel to and consequent upon a complaint/petition from the senator’s Nkpologu ward alleging anti-party activities.
They accused Utazi of participating in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu North Zonal Chapter meetings and endorsing Governor Peter Mba for a second term in office.
They also accused the senator of granting interviews and engaging in open blackmail and de-marketing of APC Enugu State chapter in public, among other infractions.
