Michael Adewale Adesanya, a 37-year-old global business leader, educator, and native son of Remo, has officially declared his candidacy for the upcoming bye-election to represent Remo Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.
Adesanya said his goal is to activate Remo’s untapped economic potential and reclaim its legacy as a national beacon of education and enterprise.
“Remo is the economic throat of Nigeria, a gateway between Lagos and the hinterlands, blessed with human capital, trade access, and industrial potential,” said Adewale.
“But our people are struggling. The economy is biting, opportunities are shrinking, and development feels like it’s passing by the 600,000-plus inhabitants of Remo. It’s time we had a representative who doesn’t just know Abuja, but knows how to move Abuja for Remo.”
Raised in Isale Oko, Sagamu, Michael’s journey has always been deeply local and boldly global. From winning 17 national science awards while schooling in Ikenne, to graduating with First-Class honors in Chemical Engineering from UNILAG and earning an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in the United States, he has fused academic excellence with entrepreneurial grit.
Professionally, Michael has led at Procter & Gamble, Jumia, and Gap Inc., before co-founding Suplias, a retail-tech startup backed by Y Combinator, and later launching Oris, a digital platform empowering over 1,000 Nigerian sales professionals.
His professional journey has taken him across Europe, North America, and Asia. But home is where the heart is.
“I don’t just dream of progress—I build it. But it’s time we built it in Remo. I have seen progress in the broader world and the prosperity it brings. It’s time for Remo to rise,” he said.
He said his candidacy is rooted in one core belief that “a seat in the House of Representatives is not just symbolic—it is strategic.
With the right leadership, it becomes a platform to drive transformation through four key levers.
“Education is the bedrock of our prosperity”. Through his Adewale Students Conference (ASC), Michael has already impacted over 5,000 students and teachers in Ogun State in the last 4 years. Now, he aims to scale that success using both private-sector partnerships and federal education funds.
“We will establish Remo as a center for innovation by supporting vocational training, digital skills, and micro-enterprise development—because the government’s job is not to give everyone jobs, but to create an economy where jobs can thrive. I have done it with Oris, I can do it for Remo.
“From digital classrooms to youth-led businesses, we’ll use the federal constituency budget to invest in real tools of growth, not handouts, but springboards.
“I will fight for policies that make towns like those in Remo an industrial magnet—advocating for infrastructure funding, power access, and special economic zone incentives.
“This is not just a campaign—it’s a movement for Remo’s rebirth. I have a history of championing change through leadership. I’ve built businesses from scratch. Now, I’m ready to take that same energy to Abuja—for our schools, our markets, our mothers, and our youth.”
