Ever since Joe Rogan first built his gigantic fan following, he has become one of the most outspoken people in the entertainment business. One of the most incredible examples of that is the time Joe revealed that he once paid his kids’ friends $1,000 each to do something difficult without telling their parents first.

In a June 2022 Instagram video, Joe Rogan detailed what he believed the benefits of cold plunges were. “The benefits for resilience, the benefits for my mind and for inflammation for my body. My body feels soo good. All my soreness, that was generally just an ordinary part of everyday life, a massive amount of that has been dissipated… It’s just this sauna and cold plunge routine that I do, it has made a giant difference.”
However, the thing that made that podcast episode unique was that Joe explained that he paid his kids’ friends $1,000 each to try the cold plunge.
My daughter’s friends were over at the house. I told them I’d give them a thousand dollars if they could do a minute in it.
After revealing his challenged his childrens’ friends to do a cold plunge for a minute, he revealed more details about the situation.
In January 2024, The Mayo Clinic published an article about cold plunges that stated the possible benefits. “Research on cold-water immersion has found evidence that it helps reduce the degree of exercise-induced muscle damage that can occur after physically challenging activities. Less damage leads to less inflammation, which in turn reduces soreness and helps restore physical performance the next day.” That same article also detailed that frostbite is a possible consequence of cold plunges when not done right.
During the podcast episode, Joe explained that he went through with paying three of his kids’ friends, who were 12-years-old, $1,000 each.

At that point, Joe revealed how the parents of the kids he paid reacted to what he did.
