Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion that occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, near Karu Bridge on the Abuja-Keffi Highway.
The incident claimed multiple lives and destroyed properties, leaving many families in mourning.
In a statement released on Thursday, the First Lady extended her heartfelt condolences to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the families of the deceased, the injured, and all those affected by the disaster.
She acknowledged the pain and loss suffered by residents, business owners, and the larger Abuja community.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident of the tanker explosion, which led to the loss of many lives and property. I commiserate with the Minister of the FCT, the families of the deceased and injured, and all those affected,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu also called for stricter adherence to vehicle safety regulations, urging owners and drivers, particularly those operating articulated vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the roads.
She stressed that proper maintenance and compliance with roadworthiness standards are crucial to preventing similar tragedies in the future.
She offered prayers for the souls of the departed, asking God to grant their families strength in this difficult time.
“I pray Almighty God grants the souls of the departed eternal rest and gives their family and friends the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. To the injured, I wish them a speedy recovery,” she added.
