The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, has accused Nigerian authorities of intimidation following the withdrawal of his security personnel.
Speaking on Thursday, Gabam alleged that powerful forces were trying to silence him and weaken the party’s efforts to promote good governance.
He made the claims in a video posted on his official Facebook page.
He stated, “For three months now, my officially approved mobile police protection has been withdrawn, despite my entitlement as the National Leader of a political party. I followed due process, applied to the IGP, and got approval, yet I am the only one whose security detail has been removed.
“This is not just about me; it’s about the deliberate attempt to silence voices fighting for good governance. But let it be known, no level of intimidation will stop our movement for a better Nigeria!
“If anything happens, the government owes the people an explanation. Our mission is clear: justice, fairness, and progress for all!
“Now is the time to stand together! Join the movement for real change.”
Gabam’s statement comes as the SDP gains increasing attention, especially after former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his allies defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party.
With talks of a possible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, the SDP is being seen as a key player in the proposed initiative.
