Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports circulating online that 25 of its members are planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, the Assembly dismissed the claims as “entirely false and without merit.”
This denial is coming amid a recent flurry of online speculation, with an unnamed blog alleging the planned defection.
The statement highlighted the similarity of this report to previous rumours during the Assembly’s recent leadership dispute where 27 members were falsely linked to a potential move to defect to the Labour Party (LP).
“For the avoidance of doubt, no APC member of the Lagos State House of Assembly is contemplating defection.
“As true progressives, we acknowledge that challenges may arise, but we remain committed to addressing them through democratic and lawful processes,” the statement asserted.
The Assembly emphasised that the party’s leadership is actively involved in resolving any outstanding issues, assuring the public that these will be settled amicably.
It urged residents of the state to disregard the unfounded reports, which they believe, are designed to mislead and create unnecessary tension.
