The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, has threatened to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if Abdullahi Abbas emerges as the party chairman in Kano.
Besides, Ata insisted that the APC may head for another round of failure in capturing power from the opposition New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) if Abbas is eventually imposed as party chairman.
Abbas, whose third-term tenure as APC Chairman in Kano would end this month, is allegedly being projected by National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, to return for the fourth time.
Abbas, a prince of the Kano royal emirate who has been Ganduje’s choice candidate, has been in charge of the party for the last 10 years.
Speaking at the Fagge APC caucus meeting at the Federal Secretariat in Kano, the former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly revealed that his constituency is not backing the purported imposition of Abbas to head the APC in Kano.
The minister said, “We are making it clear to everyone that if they bring him back, we will leave the party, and the party will surely fall again. We are not with such people, and no matter what happens, we will not align with them. They send us messages, and we respond accordingly.
“We were raised with good morals; we know who God is, we respect our scholars and elders, and we will not compromise our values. If they insist on bringing him back, we will leave, and I swear, the party will fall again.
“Votes do not give power, money cannot buy power, and even the people do not ultimately decide who rules. Gawuna and Garo won the election cleanly, but fraud was committed against us.”
