• Bayelsa LP guber candidate joins APC
A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Emeka Beke in Rivers State said that Tony Okocha is doing everything possible to frustrate the party’s original stakeholders in the state, including the former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to force him out of the party.
The faction’s spokesman, Darlington Nwauju, explained that this is the reason Okocha always attacks the former minister. Nwauju spoke in reaction to Okocha’s lash on Amaechi on Monday, describing the former minister as a failed politician who was unable to attract any single project to the region and the state.
“Why has Amaechi’s name become the only currency that Tony Okocha and his group can use for their political trade by batter? The only reason Okocha is doing everything possible to construct a gulf in the APC family is to vex the original stakeholders of the party in the state like Amaechi and force him out of a political party he laboured to build in Rivers State.” Nwauju emphasised that destroying other people’s reputations to gain political relevance is what every reasonable man should query.
Also, an APC chieftain, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said Amaechi influenced over 15 crucial projects in the South-South region and also helped several people in the region to get appointments into various Federal Government agencies.
Eze, erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), said it was necessary to give clarity on Okocha’s statement. He stressed that Amaechi served all parts of the country equally as a minister and attracted several developmental projects to the South-South region contrary to Okocha’s claims.
In response to Okocha’s statement that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has not achieved anything since he assumed office, Eze said such a statement exposes Okocha’s ignorance of what governance is all about.
MEANWHILE, the immediate past governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying President Bola Tinubu is behind all the projects in his Agudiama/Ekpetiama community, Yenagoa Local Council.
Eradiri, who registered for the APC in Ward 10 Constituency 2, Yenagoa Local Council, said Tinubu, through the Samuel Ogbuku-led Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), gave his community potable water, shore protection, solar lights and one-kilometre road.
He said besides his community, almost all the communities in the Niger Delta had benefitted from the light-up project and other interventionist programmes of the NDDC.
He said the Tinubu’s government, through the NDDC, had also promised to carry out other projects such as the remodelling of the secondary school and a quality lodge for members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in his community.
