FRSC launches nationwide clampdown on fake number plates, illegal vehicle registrations

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a special nationwide operation to crack down on the illegal use of number plates and fake vehicle registrations across Nigeria.

The enforcement exercise, which began on Monday, February 3, 2025, targets private, commercial, government, and diplomatic vehicles with fake or improperly registered number plates.

The operation is being led by Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Hyginus Omeje, in charge of Operations, alongside ACM Godwin Omiko, who oversees Motor Vehicle Administration.

According to ACM Omeje, the clampdown aims to enhance the National Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) database, strengthen security measures across the country and ensure compliance with road traffic regulations.

The FRSC also urged motorists to regularize their vehicle registrations and warned that offenders will face strict penalties.
