The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has taken a swipe at the trio of former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, for scheming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election through a coalition.
Sani questioned the intention of the opposition and their hunger pangs for power, pointing out that they were once in power with nothing to show.
He added that the so-called politicians are scheming to reclaim power not because they have the interests of Nigerians at heart, given their bad records while in government.
Governor Sani said all the opposition figures cannot match President Tinubu when it comes to upholding the principles of democracy, adding that they were only gathering together to be in power and not in the interest of Nigerians.
“Most of these politicians that came out and say they are coming as a coalition, they are politicians that were in government only less than two years ago. What did they do when they were in government? They were only fighting for power, not because they could do anything better,” he said.
“Nigerians are smarter, they are watching, and they know these opposition leaders are fighting President Bola Tinubu not because they can offer something better than him. Some time ago, most of them were praising Tinubu, so is it because they are no longer in power today?
“We were once together on the same table fighting for Tinubu because we agreed he is the best person to take the country forward. These opposition figures were once with us.
“No president in the history of Nigeria has practiced democracy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
El-Rufai, alongside Atiku and Amaechi, at a conference, called for a coalition to remove President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The conference also maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should allow new political parties to be registered as contained in the constitution.
The National Conference was organized by a group of civil society organisations, which included the National Peace Committee, the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development, Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WfD), Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), and Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA).
