In a bid to ensure road safety and protect motorists, the Lagos State Police Command has begun enforcing the mandatory Third Party Motor Vehicle Insurance policy, effective February 1st, 2025. This move is in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Vehicle owners in Lagos State are now required to possess a minimum of valid Third Party Insurance. Those without insurance are advised to get covered immediately to avoid strict enforcement actions, including fines and penalties.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasized that this initiative aims to ensure vehicle owners comply with stipulated insurance requirements, protecting themselves and other road users.
To facilitate smooth enforcement, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, has instructed officers to be professional, courteous, and firm in their duties. The police boss warned that incivility towards the public will not be tolerated.
The public is urged to cooperate with the police, as this enforcement exercise is deemed a win-win situation for all. With this crackdown, Lagos joins the growing list of states promoting road safety through mandatory insurance policies.
