The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has issued a warning to Nigerian parents about a fake N50,000 Child Support Grant circulating on social media. The ministry’s director of Information, Rhoda Iliya, described the information as “fake news” and cautioned parents to be wary of fraudsters trying to scam them.
The scam, which has been debunked by the ministry, claims to offer N50,000 to each parent to support their children. However, the ministry emphasized that it is not aware of any such registration portal and that any legitimate programs would be accompanied by proper enlightenment.
Rhoda Iliya, the ministry’s director of Information, described the information in a statement on Saturday in Abuja as fake. The statement cautioned parents to be wary of the activities of fraudsters trying to scam them.
”This is a scam trending on social media and the Ministry has tagged it as fake news.“We are not aware of this registration portal and if the ministry will undertake such programmes there will be a proper enlightenment.
”Nigerians should be careful, don’t be a victim of these scammers on social media.
The ministry asked Nigerians to be cautious of unsolicited messages on social media claiming to offer financial assistance and to verify information before applying or sharing with others. It further tasks Nigerians, not to provide personal or financial information to untrusted sources and to alert families, friends, and well-wishers about the scam.
The ministry’s warning comes amid a rise in online scams targeting vulnerable populations. Nigerian parents are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
