When each season of The Traitors ends, fans should be talking about things like who will star in the next season. The producers of the hit reality show will also be happy if fans talk about how much they love Alan Cumming and how difficult hosting the show must be. During The Traitors’ second season, fans of the show were introduced to a new cast of fascinating players. To the surprise of most fans, one of the season’s players who turned out to have the most impact on the show was Peter Weber.
Throughout his time in Alan Cumming’s castle, Peter was extremely open about how he was trying to uncover the identities of the Traitors. As a result, it didn’t take long for it to become very obvious that Peter was in serious danger of being “murdered” by the Traitors.
However, when Peter’s fate seemed to be sealed, a new twist in the game was introduced that kept him in the game longer. As a result of when it was introduced, there was suspicion that the twist was solely created to protect Peter. However, The Traitors’ producer publicly stated that they didn’t cheat to save Peter.

During that interview, Entertainment Weekly’s interviewer asked Sam if the canceled banishment during Episode 7 was to protect a player. In response, Sam bluntly stated that they didn’t cancel the banishment to help anyone specific.
The Episode 7 twist [of the canceled banishment] was absolutely not done to protect anyone.
Given that there were real suspicions about whether Peter had been protected, simply saying that didn’t happen wasn’t enough.

Season 2’s canceled banishment, players were taken on an “outing” by Alan Cumming. During a ceremony in the woods, some players were allowed to light the torches of other players they wanted to save from the potential of being “murdered” by the Traitors. When Peter Weber’s torch was lit, that ensured he was no longer in danger of being the next player who was murdered.
According to what Sam went on to tell Entertainment Weekly, the canceled banishment twist had actually been planned before filming began.

While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Sam responded to the interviewer’s potential disbelief. Sam explained to the outlet’s interviewer why the team behind The Traitors would never rig the game to help a player.
“We would never interfere with the gameplay because, well, one, we don’t need to. And two, it wouldn’t be satisfying.”
There is another reason why The Traitors‘ producers almost certainly wouldn’t rig the show to help Peter or anyone else, the potential legal jeopardy.
If The Traitors was rigged to help Peter, that would inherently doom another player. That would mean that the player who was eliminated instead of Peter lost out on the chance to win a lot of money. It should go without saying that would open up Peacock and The Traitors’ producer to the potential of being sued.
After the first season of Survivor, a player named Stacey Stillman sued, claiming that the show’s producers rigged the game to save Rudy Boesch. Stacey claimed that producers orchestrated her exit to keep Rudy safe, and she took them to court. As an August 2017 Medium article revealed, CBS and Stacey settled out of court. Clearly, the team behind The Traitors wouldn’t want to have anything to do with a scandal like that.
The Traitors Producer Revealed That Peter Weber Didn’t Inspire The Introduction Of Another Twist
During the second season of The Traitors, some of the Traitors players tried to recruit Peter Weber to join them. However, Peter turned down the opportunity to join them. Later during the same season, fans saw something that had never happened before, an ultimatum. Kate Chastain was told she could become one of the Traitors or be “murdered.” Some fans thought Peter inspired the ultimatum twist by turning down the Traitors’ attempt to recruit him.

During the same Entertainment Weekly interview, Sam Rees-Jones made it clear that the ultimatum twist wasn’t inspired by Peter either. Instead, the twist was a part of the games’ rules since before The Traitors’ first season.
“No. That’s within the rules that everyone gets at the start.”
Since The Traitors began, fans have wondered what would happen if there was only one Traitor left. After all, the Traitor could be banished and the season would be over in an instant. As Sam explained to Entertainment Weekly, the ultimatum has been the contingency plan that has always been in place in case there is only one Traitor left.
The rules dictated at the point that when you’re down to one Traitor, it’s an ultimatum.
Based on what Sam told Entertainment Weekly, it makes perfect sense that the ultimatum rule would be in place.
The Traitors is a reality competition series that features celebrity and civilian contestants vying for a grand prize.
