Eskom has announced the resumption of load reduction measures in parts of Tshwane to safeguard electrical infrastructure from the adverse effects of illegal connections and electricity theft.

These measures are essential to prevent damage to transformers and mini-substations, ensuring the continued reliability of the power supply.

Affected areas in Tshwane include:

– Ga-Rankuwa units 2, 4, 5, 16, 20, 23, 25

– Ga-Rankuwa parts 4 SP and NU

– Mabopane blocks B, C, D, U, X, S, M, EW and CV

– Winterveldt wards 2, 6, 12, 13

– Mabopane U, R, Ext 18 Mabopane Part 19 SP

– Winterveldt Ext 3, wards 11 and 9

– Ga-Rankuwa units 2,6,7, 8, 9,17 and 23

– Ga-Rankuwa View Ext 1, Ga-Rankuwa Part 4 SP

– Hebron, Soshanguve Ext 1

– Kopanong Ext 1

– Zithobeni Ext 1, 2, SP

– Cullinan, Cullinan Outlying

The load reduction will be implemented during peak demand periods from 05:00-09:00 and from 17:00-22:00.

Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi said unlike scheduled load-shedding, which is implemented to balance supply and demand across the national grid, load reduction is a targeted measure aimed at protecting local infrastructure.

Qithi said load reduction is specifically designed to prevent equipment damage in areas where illegal connection and electricity theft have been identified as significant issues.
