Is another child missing in Pretoria West?

A search is currently underway in Pretoria West for another child who was allegedly also taken at the same spot as the previous child in Pretoria West.

Leon Kruyshaar, DA councilor, said in a TikTok video, a member of the public allegedly saw a child dressed in a pink onesie being taken through a veld on the corner of Claremont and Da Gama Streets.

It is believed this happened on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, a girl was taken at the exact spot on Thursday evening.

Police could, however, not confirm the two missing cases.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said no missing cases have been reported at the police station.

It is also not yet clear where the parents of these missing children are.

Despite this, Kruyshaar, said the area has been cordoned off, and the local community is out in full force on Monday searching for the children.

About 50 community members, along with the police, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Community Policing Forum (CPF), and AfriForum, gathered at the scene on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, Xander Loubser of Best Care Emergency Services made an urgent appeal to parents in the area, saying:

“We would like to address the recent reports concerning child safety in our community. It’s important to clarify that, due to the lack of credible information and the absence of eyewitness accounts of any abductions, no children have been reported missing since the initial incident (on Thursday). Based on a recent report of another abducted child, resources are now being mobilised to conduct a search.

“Given the current weather conditions, we are hesitant to allocate additional resources to search for a missing child without credible evidence. Therefore, we urgently ask all parents and guardians to immediately check on the whereabouts of their children, especially those who may not be at home right now. Ensuring the safety of our children and holding those responsible accountable are our top priorities. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we manage this situation. Please report any suspicious activity or unreachable children directly to Hercules police.”

It is essential to take steps and start the investigation into a missing person’s case immediately.

Knowing there is no waiting period to report a missing person is essential.

Report a missing person at your nearest police station immediately.

You can assist the SAPS when reporting a missing person by following these steps:

• Produce a recent photograph of the missing person, if possible.
• Give a complete description of the missing person’s last whereabouts, clothes that they were wearing, as well as any information that can assist the investigating officer.
• Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form. This form safeguards the SAPS from hoax reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph and information of the missing person.
• Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details, and send any additional information that might become available.
• If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately. A SAPS 92 form must be completed to inform the Bureau of Missing Persons that the missing person’s report can be removed from the circulation system.
