A high-speed chase in Centurion ended in a shooting incident, leaving one alleged vehicle thief injured on Friday, December 20.
According to Community Emergency Response Team’s (CERT) spokesperson, Ruan Heyns, the incident occurred when alleged vehicle thieves were interrupted while attempting to steal a vehicle in Highveld, Centurion.
“A high-speed chase ensued, involving the South African Police Service (SAPS) and multiple security companies,” Heyns said.
He stated that the pursuit ended when the suspects crashed their vehicle, and one alleged thief sustained a gunshot wound.
“The patient was stabilised on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition under police guard,” Heyns explained.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and SAPS has opened an investigation.”
CERT is a community-driven initiative that aims to provide support and assistance to the community in times of need.
Heyns extended his gratitude to the various security companies and emergency services that assisted on the scene, including Emer-G-Med, Monitor Net, Tracker South Africa, Axon Security, Copwatch, Seek Security, PRSS Security, Fidelity ADT, Safe City Projects, Gauteng Crime Wardens, and SAPS.
Police could not yet comment on or confirm this information at the time of publication.
