Since Howard Stern’s career has made him very rich and famous, he has had relationships with people like Barbara Streisand. On the other hand, Howard’s controversial past behavior once got him beaten up. Similar to Howard from the past, the former reality show and sitcom star Joe Rogan has become a controversial host. Even though Joe has become so successful that he has become rich enough that fans want to know how much he pays his staff, he has also often been under attack.
In many cases, Howard has been one of the people who has called Joe out, which has resulted in their feud. While fans have compared how many listeners Howard and Joe have, they forget something fascinating. Despite their feud, Howard once publicly defended Joe during one of his worst scandals.
Howard Stern Spoke Out Against Calls For Joe Rogan’s Cancelation
During Joe Rogan’s career, he has said things and taken stances that have caused controversy. After Joe was at the center of an especially fierce backlash, there were calls for Spotify to cancel his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
On January 24, 2022, the rock and roll legend Neil Young pulled his music from Spotify in protest of the company’s support of Joe. At the time, Neil put out a statement explaining his position. “I want you to let Spotify know immediately today that I want all my music off their platform. They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.” As a March 2024 CBC article reported, Neil decided to allow Spotify to renew streaming his music after a little more than two years.
Throughout a lot of the drama that surrounded Joe, Howard Stern spoke out against the podcaster. Most notably, Howard and Joe feuded over some of the statements the podcaster made about COVID-19. Despite their extremely fraught history, however, Howard actually defended Joe against calls for his cancelation.
In January 2022, Mediate reported on comments that Howard made about Joe on his SiriusXM radio show at that time.

After Neil Young spoke out against Joe Rogan, the rock and roll legend faced a backlash of his own.
Despite all the people who’ve spoken out against Joe Rogan, the podcaster has weathered every storm. In fact, Joe’s financial position has even improved. In February 2024,
Variety
reported that Joe signed a deal renewal with Spotify said to be worth up to $250 million. That figure was even more impressive than Joe’s previous deal, which was reported to be worth up to $200 million.
Some of the people who were angry at Neil’s stance against Joe called for the musician to be canceled instead of the podcaster. After stating that he didn’t want to see Joe get canceled, Howard similarly defended Neil. Howard also professed his opinion that all the drama would come down to a single factor: money.
“I don’t want to see Neil Young canceled. Everything in this world comes down to money.”
Before Howard made his statement defending Joe, he told his listeners about his history with the incredibly successful podcaster.
In recent years, there has been a lot of talk about how SiriusXM would survive if Howard Stern chooses to retire. Fortunately for SiriusXM, it seems that it will still be a while before they have to face that possibility.
Screen Rant
reported that Howard signed a five-year deal with SiriusXM in December 2000, Howard’s contract reportedly was believed to be worth up to $100 million annually.
After explaining that he doesn’t listen to Joe’s podcast, Howard explained how long ago they met. Howard also briefly explained how his relationship with Joe had changed over the years.
“I don’t listen to Joe Rogan. I know Joe from 100 years ago. We’re no longer friendly. We were friendly at one point — I just knew him as the funny guy, as a comedian — I knew him before he was on Fear Factor actually.”
Given how many times Howard has spoken out against Joe, what he went on to say might surprise many observers.

While still talking about the push for Joe to be canceled, Howard explained why he supported Joe’s success.
In November 2023,
Variety
reported that Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” was the most downloaded podcast of the year. As a result of the fact that “The Joe Rogan Experience” has topped the charts off and on for a long time, Joe is widely considered to be the most successful podcaster ever.
Despite calling out some of Joe’s actions in the past, Howard explained that he supported anyone making a good living in the entertainment business.
“I am for any performer who can get any money and get paid. I’m happy for any young man or woman who can get paid in show business because so many people do not get paid. So those that can, god bless.”
Still not done, Howard also paid tribute to what Joe accomplished with his incredibly successful podcast.
“I know that his podcast is very popular, they say… It ain’t easy. It’s not an easy road. And attracting an audience is not easy.”

Donald Trump Threatened To Steal A Gossip Columnist’s Future Girlfriends During An Interview With Howard Stern
Donald Trump argument with a gossip columnist on The Howard Stern show resulted in him threatening to steal the writer’s girlfriend.
In January 2022, Yahoo! Entertainment reported about The View’s hosts talking about Joe and Neil Young’s controversy. During that conversation, Joy Behar expressly stated that she was against Joe being canceled.
I don’t want to see Joe Rogan canceled.
However, the rest of what Joy had to say about the scandal Joe was involved in at the time seemed to undermine that statement.
At first, Joy just expressed how damaging she believed Joe’s statements about COVID-19 had been. That part of Joy’s comments didn’t go against her call for Joe not to be canceled. However, Joy then praised Neil Young for his stance against Joe and spoke about how other artists might follow suit.
“I mean, I agree that Joe Rogan is a horror. A horror. But the way to counter that speech is with more speech. The way to counter it is with boycotts. Maybe other musicians will follow suit, and that would be legitimate. It’s not a cancel culture, it’s a consequence culture. And the way we handle it is we don’t buy Spotify. We ignore Spotify.”
Considering that the point of Neil’s protest was a call for Spotify to stop supporting Joe, Joy getting behind that effort seemed to undermine her earlier statement.
