Max Verstappen hints at family time behind potentially leaving F1 soon

Max Verstappen joined Red Bull in 2016 and never looked back in terms of performance. The Dutchman continued to put forth great results as he recently won his fourth consecutive world championship. Verstappen has truly achieved a lot in the pinnacle of motorsport in recent seasons. Hence, the 27-year-old lifted the curtains on a potential retirement from the sport in the coming time after achieving so much.

Max Verstappen had previously claimed that he had achieved everything he wanted from Formula 1. The Dutchman had already commented multiple times regarding his retirement plans from the sport. Verstappen claimed that physically he might always be able to participate in racing on the grid. However, the 27-year-old also highlighted his goals to win eight world championships and beat Lewis Hamilton. The reigning world champion wanted to prioritize time with family over his goals in the sport.

I will definitely be able to continue in F1, but I will also want to do other things to enjoy life to the fullest. My ultimate goal would be to win eight titles. It would be great, but not really necessary. There are many other things I would like to do in life like enjoying time with my family.

Impressive results in Formula 1 weren’t the sole goal of Verstappen. The Dutchman already had occasions when he had to ignore his family due to priorities in the sport. The 27-year-old reckoned that there would be days when his family won’t be around in the future. Hence, the four-time world champion wanted to spend more time with his family due to them always supporting their son.

Already now there are days when my parents call me and I tell them that I will call them back later, but I also know that there will come a day when they will not call me anymore because they will no longer be here. These are the moments that make me think that you can’t focus everything on races and F1. I want to spend time with them because it’s since I was 4 years old that they dedicated everything to me for my successes and to try to bring me to F1.

Max Verstappen claims he can win ‘even without the fastest car’

The 2024 season showcased that Max Verstappen could win races and championships even in a struggling chassis. Hence, Verstappen noted that he would still win without the fastest car and give it his all. Moreover, the 27-year-old highlighted that he had grown overall as a driver. Hence, the reigning world champion was excited to witness what the 2025 season had in the bag for himself and Red Bull.

I know that if we have that opportunity again, even without the fastest car, we will still win, so I always know that when I’m sitting in the car I’ll give everything I have. In recent years I have also grown as a driver, and you are definitely more complete, so I am very excited to see what we can do next year. At the moment we still don’t know how competitive we will be.

Max Verstappen already seems detached from his family after Jos Verstappen missed out on his son’s championship celebrations. Moreover, his long-time girlfriend Kelly Piquet was absent at the crucial Las Vegas GP as well. As a result, such factors could contribute to an early retirement for the four-time world champion from Formula 1.
