The 2024 NASCAR Cup season was full of drama, with Joey Logano’s upsetting championship win capping it off. But nothing comes close to the biggest drama of the season, the charter wars that have now moved into the courts. Every other team than 23XI racing and Front Row Motorsports has signed the new deal for the 2025-2031 seasons.
The 23XI-FRM coalition, led by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, took the decision to file a federal lawsuit against NASCAR, the first one in the sport history, alleging monopoly. The situation has gotten into a stage where both the teams have to race as open sides next season. But amidst all this backlashes 23XI isn’t backing down from their decisions and Kevin Harvick is impressed by it.
While reviewing the 2024 season via his podcast, the 2014 champion pointed out that they coalition has taken a bold move of never seen magnitude. He believes the fight from the owners of the two teams to fix the issue they see with the sport is the biggest thing that happened this season and nothing would match it.
So, it’s such a bold move that we have never seen it to this magnitude in the sport. I think that they’re obviously those two teams that feel like they’re fighting for something that could change the path of what they believe the sport should look like as a team owner… To me it was it was definitely the biggest thing that that happened.

While talking about the gravity of the risk taken by 23XI and FRM with their lawsuit. Kevin Harvick pointed out that, if they enter the 2025 season as open teams, they are in the risk of missing out of a spot in the Daytona 500.
It looks to me like if they’re going to keep battling down this road they’re going to wind up racing as open teams which is going to create a story for a scenario where one of their cars of you know could possibly miss the Daytona 500…

The two teams are taking a huge risk with the legal proceedings. It will be interesting to if NASCAR and the teams can get into a settlement to let them race for the championship next season, overlooking the charter wars.
