TV star diagnosed with mental health condition after he 'knew something was wrong'

Vanderpump Rules and The Valley star Jax Taylor has reached out to fans to update them about his mental health struggles. The star has recently been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and PTSD.

The Valley follows a group of friends living in ‘the valley’ – a quiet neighborhood for those living in Los Angeles that are ready to settle down. A cast made up of mostly unfamiliar faces, a trio stand out, from previously starring in Vanderpump Rules. Two of the trio are estranged couple Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, who separated during season one. Reality TV loves a villain, and Jax was happy to step up to the plate. However, since the show, fans are shocked and saddened to hear about how he’s been struggling with his mental health.

‘I never thought I’d be in this position right now’

Jax made for exceptionally addictive TV as he schemed, lied and insulted his way through this Bravo comeback of an unpolished show harking back to the early days of reality TV.

Jax and Brittany were central to the series, with most of the married cast being friends of theirs with young families.

Jax started the show trying to give himself an anti-villain rebrand, now that he was a father, a husband and a business owner. He spent a lot of the show talking about the other’s unhappy marriages.

Unfortunately, it was Jax and Brittany’s marriage that was starting to show the deepest cracks. The pair actually announced before the season aired that they had separated, and viewers got to watch this play out on screen.

In the finale, Jax seemed completely blindsided, even though his friends continually tried to warn him, about the trouble his marriage was in. “I never thought I’d be in this position right now,” he said amid breaking down during a confessional.

As fans eagerly await to see if Jax will attempt another redemption arc in season two, they have been shocked and saddened by his recent post on Instagram.

Jax diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and PTSD

The 45-year-old checked into rehab recently, surprising family, friends and fans. A representative of his told outlets it was for “mental health struggles.” His Instagram post shared more of what was actually going on.

On September 2, the father-of-one shared a mental health update, telling fans how a “little over a month ago” he “checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility.”

He described how he was “scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself.”

“After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD. It’s been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I’ve come home to my son with a new-found sense of peace,” He continued.

“My focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you, but rather learning to control it.” Jax shared, showing he is on a journey to a better and stronger self, even though he expressed some fears about “the future”.

With a flourish of gratitude for everyone that reached out and supported him during this time, he also thanked those who “shared their own personal struggles with me. Your messages have helped me more than you know.”

Wishing Jax the best, and we hope to see him on the road to recovery in season 2 of The Valley, set to be released in spring 2025.
