Nigeria needs more Umahis in governance, Ohanaeze tells President
Senator Orji Uzo Kalu (APC, Abia North) has urged President Bola Tinubu to sack some members of his cabinet.
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, made the call while fielding questions on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on Tinubu to appoint the likes of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, into pivotal ministries like power, economy and security for Nigeria to be at par with Japan, Singapore, India and South Africa.
The Abia senator claimed that lower-class Nigerians were still suffering, noting that they had not started reaping the benefits of Tinubu’s policies.
Kalu noted that insurgency and other security issues were still preventing people from going to the farm.
He said: “Nigerians in the lower area are still suffering. They have not started enjoying the benefits of the changes Tinubu made, which are trickling down. It is going to take another one, two years.
“Some people working with the President should be relieved of their duties. Some of them should go to the security sector and the ministers. The President must be courageous enough to sack some of these ministers.”

ON the APC scorecard, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, through its Deputy President, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in a statement, yesterday, congratulated Tinubu and added that Umahi’s accomplishments in the works ministry stood as a testament to the President’s vision and administrative acumen, signifying a renaissance of effective governance within the country.
This was hours after the President commissioned critical road projects in the South, including the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
“However, it is a bitter yet necessary truth that warrants our candid expression. Had Tinubu the foresight to incorporate five or six luminary figures of Umahi’s calibre in his cabinet within the pivotal sectors of power, economy, agriculture, health, security, and petroleum resources, Nigeria would undoubtedly find itself at par with the world’s most burgeoning economies such as India, Singapore, Morocco, South Africa, Japan and Turkey.
