Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has been honoured with the prestigious Diamond Award at the inaugural Billboard Global Power Players event held in London.
The ceremony, which spotlighted key figures shaping the global music industry, saw Tems celebrated alongside legendary artist Sir Elton John and EMPIRE founder Ghazi Shami.
While accepting the award, Tems expressed her deep appreciation to Billboard for championing African music and culture on a global stage. She acknowledged the growing influence of African sounds worldwide and credited Billboard for being instrumental in its rise.
“Being African and a musician is a whole new world and I feel like Billboard has been so supportive of not just African music but the whole scene and the culture.
“This has been a really great honor, especially given that that African music is moving to heights that has never been seen before, and Billboard is one of the key players in moving that needle forward,” Tems said.
In addition to Tems, Sir Elton John was awarded the Creators’ Champion Award, while Ghazi Shami received the Clive Davis Visionary Award, which was presented by Nigerian star Olamide.
The event also marked the launch of Billboard’s first-ever UK Power Players chart, celebrating music leadership and innovation in the UK and beyond.
