Protest rocks party secretariat over Akinsanya’s renomination
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a reconciliation committee to resolve all conflicts and dissatisfaction arising from the aftermath of its primary for the emergence of candidates for the forthcoming local council election in the state.
Spokesman of the party, Seye Oladejo, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, said the party had resolved to end its internal conflict in the next two weeks to form a united force for the forthcoming election.
He said that the committee had been decentralised into four senatorial districts, each headed by a prominent party member.
Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the party, Cornelius Ojelabi, charged the committee members to be diligent in their work, leveraging their wealth of experience to resolve the conflicts.
He assured the aggrieved members that the party was committed to pacifying them and ensuring a united party.
HOWEVER, residents of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), yesterday, stormed the Lagos State APC secretariat in Ikeja to protest, opposing Lasisi Akinsanya’s renomination for another term as chairman.
The protesters, with placards and banners, voiced their dissatisfaction with Akinsanya’s leadership, citing what they described as a lack of progress in the LCDA under his administration.
Their grievances extended beyond Akinsanya, as they also criticised former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain, Enilolobo, for allegedly supporting his candidacy.
Olokodana Bukhari, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, delivered a strong message to the APC leadership, warning that Akinsanya’s renomination could have far-reaching political consequences.
Bukhari also accused Akinsanya of being politically aligned with figures who, according to him, have not acted in the party’s best interests.
He claimed that during previous elections, Akinsanya failed to deliver for the APC and questioned his commitment to the party’s goals.
Besides, he described the council’s standing as consistently poor, often appearing at the bottom of the state’s monthly development reports, adding that Akinsanya’s leadership reflects stagnation and underdevelopment.
