The Katsina State Government has petitioned WAEC to cancel the English Language Paper 2 of the 2024 WASSCE, held on May 28.
The exam, originally scheduled for noon, was delayed nationwide, forcing students to write it late at night using candles and phone flashlights.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, delivered the petition—signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary—to WAEC’s Katsina office on May 31. The state condemned the poor conditions under which students sat for the paper.
WAEC later apologized, attributing the delay to efforts aimed at preventing exam malpractice and question paper leaks.
