I’m happy to step on big toes – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he takes joy from stepping on big toes.

Wike was speaking on Monday, where dismissed a possible backlash from a section of the elite regarding his enforcement of rules regarding ground rent payments.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, he said the elite go to other countries and see how modern societies are run, but that some of them come back to Nigeria and refuse to follow simple laws.

He said the era of impunity when a section of the elite felt they could trample on laws and nothing would happen was over, declaring that “something will happen”.

He said: “Look at what we are doing differently, I have found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes – I take joy when stepping on the toes of big men, those who say nothing will happen, I take joy in saying something will happen.

“It makes me happy, you want me to take decision against the poor people while you the rich man think nothing will happen – something will happen. And that’s why we are getting results.

“The only person that I owe that is Mr President, this is what I’m doing because I have to support the government and make a difference.

“I’m in PDP but when people don’t want to learn, impunity will kill you. I’m still in PDP and work hard for this party.”
