The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Alex Otti of operating a one-man administration devoid of transparency, institutional checks, and accountability.
The criticism was voiced on Sunday during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Partners, a grassroots mobilisation group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Speaking at the event in Umuahia, Abia APC Chairman, Dr Kingsley C. Ononogbu, described the Otti-led government as a “one-man show” run through propaganda and personal control.
“Abia State today is nothing but a one-man show anchored on a very well-oiled propaganda machinery,” Ononogbu declared. “Accountability is long gone. Checks and balances are non-existent, while conflict of interest has become the norm.”
He alleged that Governor Otti has centralised power to an unhealthy extent, performing the roles of chief executive, chief accountant, and auditor, and governing mostly from his private residence rather than the official Government House. Ononogbu even claimed the Government House was being considered for conversion into a five-star hotel.
Raising concerns over due process, he questioned the transparency of road contract awards in the state, saying the procedures flout the Financial and General Purposes Committee (F\&GPC) framework. “There is no transparency. The process lacks credibility,” he said.
Dr Ononogbu urged APC supporters and the Renewed Hope Partners to intensify efforts at the grassroots, positioning the party for success in the 2027 elections. “You are not just a support group. You are allies of the party,” he told the group, emphasising the need to counter misinformation from the opposition.
He expressed optimism that the APC would reclaim both the state and federal positions, warning supporters to remain vigilant against what he termed the opposition’s “sugar-coated lies.”
Addressing party unity, Ononogbu echoed President Tinubu’s reconciliation directive and called on estranged party members to return. “In the spirit of the ongoing reconciliations… I urge all members who have stayed away from party activities to come back home,” he said.
The remarks signal the APC’s resolve to mount a strong challenge against the Labour Party-led administration in Abia State as political alignments ahead of 2027 begin to take shape.
