Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his withdrawal from all agreements previously reached to resolve the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to “fight on until justice is attained.”
Wike, in a statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position” and personally signed on Sunday, said he had told Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that he was the architect of the party’s current woes.
According to him, “non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party, and that he was the chief culprit of this anomaly.”
He maintained that all parties must respect resolutions previously agreed upon, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment, withdrawal of all legal actions related to Rivers State by the PDP’s National Legal Adviser, and the immediate withdrawal of the suit seeking a state of emergency.
“Since after the 2023 General election, the PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders,” Wike said.
“To stem this ugly trend, efforts have been made to arrest this pernicious virus of dishonesty and treachery and enthrone fidelity to agreements with a view to stabilizing the party and moving it forward.”
Wike recounted a G5 meeting in Lagos where he told Makinde he was responsible for the party’s problems due to repeated failure to honor agreements. He said they later resolved to move forward.
He further revealed that during an expanded meeting in Abuja—attended by Makinde, Governors Bala Mohammed and Umaru Fintiri, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki—he clarified he had no personal issue with Bala Mohammed, only that the Bauchi governor “hides under the facade of Chairman of PDP Governors Forum to serially renege on agreements.”
He said the meeting ended with key resolutions, including affirming Senator Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary and calling for the withdrawal of all contentious legal matters.
