In the modern media landscape, there is so much content that it can be hard for people to figure out what to watch. As a result, it is far too common for people to not know when a great new TV show has premiered. When a new show is truly hilarious and could be a great way for people to release their stresses and have a good laugh, but it flies under the radar, that is a real shame.
In November 2024, the new sitcom St. Denis Medical premiered on NBC. The thing that far too many people haven’t realized yet is that St. Denis Medical has quickly become one of the best sitcoms on television for several reasons.
St. Denis Medical Is A Great Workplace Sitcom
Throughout the history of television, there have been endless workplace sitcoms that have aired. Since the networks and studios are always looking to recreate their successes from the past, that makes a lot of sense.
However, the sad truth is that just because a show follows the format of great sitcoms from the past, doesn’t mean anything. After all, for every successful and beloved workplace sitcom, there are many examples of others that tried and failed to be great in the same way.
Before St. Denis Medical premiered, there was no way to know if the show would be great or a pretender. Fortunately for viewers who’ve given the show a chance, St. Denis Medical has turned out to be a wonderful sitcom.

Since it takes place in a hospital, each St. Denis Medical episode allows the show’s characters to react to their patients. Unsurprisingly, St. Denis Medical’s patient interactions result in hilarious moments for the show’s viewers to enjoy.
As great as it is to see St. Denis Medical’s patient interactions, the true brilliance of the show is the main characters. After all, St. Denis Medical stars a slew of characters who are hilarious, ridiculous, and yet still relatable in some way.
Since St. Denis Medical premiered, the show has been well-received by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, St. Denis Medical has a critic’s score of 90% as of May 2025.
Most notably, St. Denis Medical stars several characters who are nurses who serve a fascinating role in the show. Similar to how nurses are the backbone of hospitals in real-life, St. Denis Medical’s nurses are at the core of most of the show’s main storylines.
On top of that, two of St. Denis Medical’s nurses serve a key role in the show, which virtually all workplace sitcoms have. Since one of St. Denis Medical’s nurses has a huge crush on another, those two characters bring an element of romance to the show.

St. Denis Medical’s doctors also are a home run for the show. Dr. Ron is a veteran doctor who has seen it all, can be grumpy, and is always looking at the camera with a knowing and hilarious wink. Then there is Dr. Bruce, the egotistical surgeon who is always boasting about himself in ridiculous ways that clearly hides an internal vulnerability.
Finally, St. Denis Medical’s cast is rounded out by the inclusion of Joyce, the hospital’s administrator, who is always hatching big plans that go awry.
St. Denis Medical’s Main Strength Is Its Amazing Cast
When the team behind St. Denis Medical was going through the casting process, they made a series of truly brilliant decisions. Most obviously, St. Denis Medical’s producers cast two titans of comedy.
First off, St. Denis Medical’s main star is Wendi McLendon-Covey who plays Joyce on the show. A character who seems to be patterned on The Office’s Michael Scott to a certain degree, Wendi does a great job portraying Joyce as she says and does ridiculous things.
Before being cast as Joyce, Wendi spent several years starring in The Goldbergs as that show’s breakout character, Beverly Goldberg. Wendi also made her name as a result of starring in Reno 911! for many years and portraying a supporting character in the movie Bridesmaids.

St. Denis Medical’s other main comedy star is David Alan Grier, the actor who brings Dr. Ron to life. Another one of St. Denis Medical’s core stars is Allison Tolman. While Allison isn’t known as a comedy legend, she is an incredibly talented dramatic actor who gives St. Denis Medical more dimensions.
St. Denis Medical is also highlighted by the inclusion of three other actors who are all hilarious in their own ways. For example, Kahyun Kim’s performance as Serena brings an element of chaos to St. Denis Medical that makes the show much better.
After previously starring in the show Jury Duty, that became a sensation, Mekki Leeper’s performance as St. Denis Medical’s Matt is a marvel to behold. Incredible at playing a character who is always messing up or ignorant of the world around him, it takes a genius to be as good at playing the butt of the joke the way Mekki does.
Finally, no examination of St. Denis Medical’s cast would be complete without bringing up Josh Lawson’s performance as Dr. Bruce. An egotistical surgeon who acts like he thinks he is a gift to the world, Josh’s utter commitment to portraying every ridiculous thing that Dr. Bruce is what makes the character so great.
