Smokey Robinson’s attorney has released a statement accusing the four former housekeepers who recently filed a civil suit against the legendary Motown singer of sexual assault and trying to extort him for money.
“We are responding on behalf of our clients Smokey and Frances Robinson. We will have more to say in the coming days as we make our legal response, and in time Mr. Robinson will respond in his own words,” attorney Christopher Frost said in a statement.
“As this case progresses, the evidence (the crucial element that guides us) will show that this is simply an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon–$50 million dollars, to be exact,” the statement continues.
The accusers, four Hispanic women identified as Jane Does 1 through 4, allege that Smokey Robinson abused them over an 18-year span, from 2006 to 2024, at his homes in California and Las Vegas. They claim he forced them into unwanted sexual encounters, often without protection, while his wife, Frances Robinson, fostered a hostile work environment by hurling racial slurs and denying them basic labor rights like rest breaks.
