The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has vehemently denied media reports claiming that Ugochukwu Uba and Sadiq Gombe were appointed as members of its National Working Committee (NWC). According to the party, these reports are false and misleading, aimed at creating confusion within the party.
The SDP clarified that neither Uba nor Gombe are registered members of the party, making them ineligible for any leadership positions. The party’s National Vice Chairman (South East), Arinze Ekelem, emphasized that no such appointments were made during the NWC meeting held on May 15, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Interestingly, some reports suggest that the SDP did appoint Uba as Deputy National Chairman (South) and Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar (not Sadiq Gombe) as Deputy National Chairman (North), along with Hussani Ado Bello as National Financial Secretary. These appointments were reportedly made to fill vacant positions in the party’s leadership and strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The SDP’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, expressed concern over the spread of false reports and vowed to identify and take action against those behind the misinformation. The party urged its members and the public to disregard the fake news and continue supporting the party’s values and leadership.
In contrast, the SDP State Chairmen Forum congratulated the newly appointed NWC members, including Uba and Abubakar, describing the move as strategic and timely. They reaffirmed their loyalty to the party leadership and urged the new appointees to deploy their experience towards deepening the party’s ideals.
It’s essential to note that there seems to be conflicting information regarding the appointments, and the party’s official stance is that Uba and Gombe are not members and were not appointed to any positions.
