Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has publicly decried the increasing normalization of child abuse and illicit relationships involving minors under 18 in Nigeria.
In a fervent Instagram post, Edochie expressed deep concern over how social media is contributing to the problem, stating that these platforms often amplify and defend such harmful behavior.
“Immorality at its highest peak. When did child abuse become legal? When did keeping an affair with an underage (less than 18) become a thing to be proud of?” she wrote.
Edochie did not hold back in her criticism of how immoral conduct is being glamorized and defended online. She rejected the idea that such acts are mere stunts for publicity or attention.
“The sickening thing here is that social media is not even helping matters; they hype and take sides with this evil with reasons that are never justifiable,” she stated.
The actress emphasized that true success does not require compromising one’s values, adding that fame should not come at the cost of morality. She also highlighted the role of families and media in shaping the values of the younger generation.
Raising alarm about the kind of content children are now exposed to, she warned against embracing entertainment that promotes unethical behavior.
“Everything has just been normalized in this country; immorality is highly celebrated, Tufiakwa,” she concluded, calling on society to take responsibility and protect its youth from harmful influences.
