National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “gasping for breath” under the weight of internal crises and defections, attributing its struggles to the growing dominance and performance of the ruling APC.
Speaking at the APC National Summit held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ganduje said the opposition has been weakened by factional infighting and mass defections, many of which have strengthened the ranks of the APC.
“The PDP is now gasping for breath,” Ganduje asserted.
“Its house is divided, and its members are trooping into the APC in droves. That is the impact of our performance and leadership.”
The APC Chairman boasted that the party currently controls 22 out of the 36 states in the country and hinted that more states would be added to its fold soon.
“One more governor is on the way,” he disclosed, without naming the state.
Ganduje said the party’s focus is now on expanding its political footprint across the nation, especially with preparations underway for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State and other off-cycle elections.
He pointed to the APC’s recent electoral victories in post-2023 off-cycle elections as evidence of the party’s growing popularity and as a harbinger of what to expect in the 2027 general elections.
“We are preparing strategically, and our recent victories are signs of what is to come. Even in the Federal Capital Territory, through our political dexterity, we are confident of success,” Ganduje added.
The summit brought together party stakeholders from across the country, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and 22 APC governors, as part of efforts to consolidate internal unity and chart the way forward ahead of future elections.
