Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed that the repeated electoral setbacks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) provide a cause for celebration among Edo residents.
On Friday, Okpebholo, alongside his deputy Dennis Idahosa, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), youths, and market women, conducted a victory motorcade through Benin City to commemorate the Appeal Court’s decision affirming the APC’s position in the state.
Okpebholo stated, “The PDP keeps giving us reasons to celebrate. We beat them in the governorship election, at the Tribunal, and now at the Appeal Court. We’ll beat them again at the Supreme Court.”
He attributed the string of victories to divine guidance, saying, “God is in control of the state and will keep granting victory to its people.”
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for his support and noted that the state is making progress under the current administration.
“Edo people will support President Tinubu again in 2027. No one can silence the voice of the people—not even the PDP,” he added.
Okpebholo accused the PDP of attempting to influence the judiciary through misappropriated funds, but affirmed that “the judges stood for truth and justice.”
He also criticized PDP leaders for alleging that their mandate was stolen, suggesting they were following figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in forming an unsuccessful coalition.
“The time of PDP in Edo is over. Under my leadership, we will continue to give Edo people real development,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, Okpebholo mentioned the flyover at Ikpoba-Hill, with two more planned.
The Appeal Court ruling, delivered on Thursday by Justice Mohammed Danjuma, upheld Okpebholo’s election as governor.
The court dismissed the appeal by the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, describing it as lacking merit. Justice Danjuma stated that the PDP failed to provide sufficient evidence to support claims of irregularities in the September 21, 2024 election.
