The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has officially unveiled its NIN Authentication (NINAuth) service, marking a significant stride towards enhanced digital security and streamlined government operations. The new system has received the Federal Government’s stamp of approval, with President Bola Tinubu’s administration mandating its use across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
In a press briefing on Tuesday in Lagos, Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, explained that the introduction of NINAuth forms a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “This initiative is designed not only to bolster the reliability of our digital identity system but also to empower Nigerians by giving them greater control over their personal data,” Adegoke stated.
The NINAuth service is engineered to offer a seamless and secure method for identity verification. Accessible via the web, mobile applications, and API integrations, this platform supports real-time authentication of National Identification Number (NIN) records.
It stands as the official tool connecting users directly to the NIMC database, significantly reducing the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access.
In line with modern data protection practices, the service ensures that individuals grant explicit consent before any personal information is used, whether for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, SIM registration and replacement, passport applications, tax filings, or financial transactions. The introduction of a single sign-on feature further enhances user convenience, allowing secure access to a variety of government services from one central portal.
The NINAuth platform is not just a technological upgrade; it represents a commitment to protecting citizens’ privacy and improving service delivery across government agencies.
According to Adegoke, the service will also play a critical role in various government support programs, driver’s license renewals, and other administrative processes. By fostering a system built on robust security measures and data integrity, NIMC seeks to build public trust and streamline how identities are managed nationally.“With NINAuth, we’re not only simplifying identity verification but also laying down the digital infrastructure that will drive Nigeria’s future economic and administrative developments,” Adegoke added.
