Niger flags off LG election campaigns

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has announced the commencement of campaign for the 2025 local council elections.

The Chairman of NSIEC, Engineer Mohammed Jibrin Imam, who disclosed this to newsmen at a media chat held at the commission’s headquarters in Minna, explained that no fewer than 10 political parties have indicated interest in participating in the elections.

According to Imam, the 10 political parties include the All Progressive Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP, ZLP, Labour Party, Booth Party, National Rescue Movement (NRM), Action Alliance, Accord Party, and Action People’s Party.

Imam urged the political parties and their candidates to adhere to the guidelines on the conduct of campaigns as stipulated in the commission’s guidelines.

He warned the participating parties that they must realise that their utterances and conduct during the campaigns would enable peaceful and successful local council elections.

The NSIEC boss maintained that while the campaigns are ongoing, the commission will continue to implement other activities remaining on the timetable, which include the publication of notice of polls and officially declaring November 1 as the date for the election to be announced by September 1, 2025.
