Nicci Gilbert, best known as a member of the ’90s R&B group Brownstone and for her time on reality TV, is now walking back her previous stance on Tory Lanez.
The singer recently offered a public apology to the currently incarcerated rapper.
During a sit-down with B High TV, Gilbert admitted that she may have jumped to conclusions in how she initially judged the situation. She now says she’s reassessed the information that was swirling around the high-profile case.

“Let me use this opportunity to say this… I made a post because I was just so disgusted about what I heard… I owe Tory Lanez an apology and I’m gonna do it here publicly. Because I sort of jumped the bandwagon of shame on him,” she said.
Back in 2022, Gilbert made a bold statement by distancing herself from Lanez, removing plaques tied to his breakout hit “Say It,” which famously sampled Brownstone’s 1994 R&B classic “If You Love Me.”
“Say It,” which marked Lanez’s official debut in 2015, went on to top Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and eventually scored a platinum plaque from the RIAA in 2019.
But after Lanez was convicted on three felony charges in connection with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, Gilbert took to Instagram to publicly announce that she could no longer celebrate a song connected to an artist convicted in such a controversial and high-profile case.
